Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462: The Complete Story

Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462 is a web series based on the television series Fear the Walking Dead, which is a spin-off of The Walking Dead. The web series tells the story of a group of passengers aboard a commercial airplane during the earliest moments of the outbreak of a zombie apocalypse. Over the course of 16 episodes, each lasting about one minute, the plane and the lives of its passengers are put in jeopardy once they discover an infected traveler. The web series premiered on October 4, 2015, on AMC's official website, and also aired as promos during The Walking Dead's sixth season. Two of its characters, Alex and Jake, are introduced in Fear the Walking Dead season two, episode three, "Ouroboros". [1]

Plot

The web series begins with a young man named Jake Powell getting a call from his mother, who was unable to board the plane with him. She reassures Jake that everything will be alright, and that his father will pick him up in the morning. As Jake attempts to get more information from his mother, he hears screaming in the background. Before he can say anything else, the woman in front of him abruptly shuts his side window closed. [2]

As the plane takes off, Jake tries desperately to text his mother and find out what happened to her, but the text message fails to send. Another passenger, Marcus, vomits into a bag as his wife tries to comfort him. Alex, a mysterious woman sitting across from Jake, looks back at him, who looks out the window as the plane flies over an unidentified city. [3]

The flight attendants begin to serve drinks throughout the cabin, and Jake has a short discussion with Connie, an elderly woman sitting next to him, about how he ended up on the plane without his mother. Marcus gets out of his seat and stumbles toward the back of the plane, disappearing into the bathroom while everyone looks on in confusion and concern. His wife tries to assure everyone that it is nothing to worry about, but Alex questions her about how long Marcus has been feeling ill. Jake then asks Alex if she thinks that Marcus is suffering from the strange disease that's been going around. [4]

Alex reveals that she works for an organization that has been tracking the outbreak since it started. She says that she knows what's happening, and that they need to get off the plane as soon as possible. She warns Jake that if Marcus dies, he will come back as one of them. She also tells him that she has a knife in her carry-on bag, and that she will use it if she has to. [5]

The flight attendants announce that they are preparing for landing, and ask everyone to return to their seats and fasten their seat belts. Alex tries to get her bag from the overhead compartment, but is stopped by Anthony, a federal air marshal who suspects her of being a terrorist. He orders her to sit down and hand over her bag. Alex refuses and tries to explain the situation, but Anthony pulls out his gun and threatens to shoot her. Jake intervenes and tells Anthony that Alex is telling the truth, and that Marcus is infected. Anthony does not believe them and points his gun at Jake. [6]

Suddenly, Marcus emerges from the bathroom, covered in blood and growling. He attacks Deirdre, one of the flight attendants, and bites her neck. The other passengers scream and panic as Marcus moves on to his next victim. Anthony shoots Marcus several times, but he does not stop. Alex manages to grab her bag and takes out her knife. She stabs Marcus in the head, killing him for good. She then tells Anthony to shoot Deirdre before she turns too. Anthony hesitates, but then shoots Deirdre in the head as well. [7]

The pilot announces that they have lost contact with air traffic control, and that they are diverting to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. He asks everyone to remain calm and stay in their seats. Alex tells Jake that they have to get off the plane before it lands, because there might be more infected people on board or on the ground. She says that she has a raft in her bag that they can use to escape through an emergency exit. She asks Jake if he trusts her enough to follow her plan. Jake agrees and says that he has nothing else to lose. [8]

Alex and Jake make their way to the back of the plane, where they find Suzanne, the woman who closed Jake's window earlier. She is crying and holding a picture of her family. Alex tells her that they are going to get off the plane, and that she can come with them if she wants. Suzanne declines and says that she wants to stay with her family, even if they are dead. Alex respects her decision and tells her to lock the door behind them. Alex and Jake open the emergency exit and inflate the raft. They jump out of the plane and land on the raft, which floats on the water below. They watch as the plane flies away, leaving them behind. [9]

The web series ends with a shot of the plane flying over a city that is on fire, implying that the outbreak has spread across the country. [10]
